Business Description
Step into a thriving, long-standing grooming business located in a busy shopping plaza in Mesa, Arizona. Originally founded in 1984 and under current ownership since 2001, this salon has built decades of trust and loyalty from both year-round residents and seasonal winter visitors.
Business Highlights:
-Prime Location: Located in a well-trafficked commercial plaza near residential neighborhoods and senior parks, with peak volume from October through April.
-Daily pet flow system to ensure proper care, safety, and staff accountability.
- Large easy to read and understand pricelist on wall in lobby (has simplified intake process).
900sq ft Fully Equipped Facility Includes:
-Reception lobby and client check-in area
-5 grooming stations (3 currently in use; most tools owned by the business-groomers also have personal tools)
-2 stainless steel tubs
-2 drying stations with 3 dual-motor K-9 dryers featuring enhanced filters
-2 vacuum clippers (portable clipper-vac and a Hanvey)
-6 banks of cages (33 individual crates)
-Washer and dryer
-Kennel Connection scheduling software ($30/month)
-Library of books and videos for ongoing staff training
-New air conditioner installed in summer 2023
-VERY Low lease at $1,200/month, including water
Team & Operations:
-Dedicated team: Wed- Sat Daily schedule includes 1 receptionist, 3 groomers (including owner), and 3 bathers — all, except the current owner, are interested in staying on
-Staff are paid hourly through Questco payroll services and split daily tips; team enjoys this individualized compensation model and consistently earns additional tips for quality care. Owner was treated as a W-2 employee also.
-Operating 4 days/week with 13–17 dogs/day in summer and 18–21 during peak season (in her younger days, before the doodle craze, the owner used to groom 12-15 a day herself with just a bather)
-High client retention with most customers pre-scheduled months or years in advance. Customers have been so generous at Christmas time, we have been greatly blessed by the abundance of cash, gifts and kindness shown.
Customer Experience & Brand:
-Excellent reputation with 4.9-stars on Google with 43 reviews
-Emphasis on relationship-based grooming — clients are educated that regular, consistent visits ensure comfort and trust
-Limited availability has meant high demand and minimal marketing; social media and website have not been a focus
-Branding recently refreshed; current monthly marketing spend is $50 in a local park newsletter
Growth Potential:
-This business is positioned for immediate growth. A full-time grooming owner could reopen bookings for larger breeds and doodles (currently not accepting), expand hours to 5–6 days/week, and reengage with social media and digital marketing. With strong local demand and a loyal client base, the business could easily double its volume with minimal upfront investment.
Reason for Sale:
The owner is stepping away due to age and health, with a planned 6 week sabbatical starting July. While stepping back from grooming, the owner is committed to supporting the transition for the new owner and existing staff to ensure continuity and success.
Bonus Backstory:
For the past eight years, the business shared space with another grooming company, splitting costs and clients. After the unexpected passing of that groomer last year, this salon absorbed the phone number and increased call volume and clientele, further strengthening its position in the community.
Additional Notes:
-Direct Buyers only - NO brokers please
-2001-2024 taxes have been filed; accountant is preparing reports for serious inquiries
-Owner will require full amount at closing

- Market Outlook / Competition
- We saw several competitors go out of business the last 5 years. We are still receiving calls from new clients that they lost their groomer or their groomer disappeared. There are shops all over but new callers are saying they can't get in. We are also hearing from people with big doodles that other shops also aren't taking them. My recommendation is revise the price list to expand with higher pricing for large doodles and tap the market we have not been able to serve based on size and not priced for their needs.
- Opportunities for Growth
- Shop needs a new ambitious leader who wants to greatly increase income and cash flow. My recommendation would be for the new owner to expand hours to Tuesdays and work that day with a single bather. This will maximize profits because of lower wages while increasing volume and Tuesday normality as the weeks go on. Once Tuesdays are normal and booked and staffed, I would start that same idea on Mondays and revolve staff schedules accordingly. New staff will need to be hire by that point of growth.
