Introduction
Vinh Nguyen was born in Vietnam. He left Vietnam at the end of the war in the Summer of 1975 as a refugee and settled in the metro Washington, DC area ever since. Mr. Nguyen has a Master Degree in Economics from Catholic University of America and a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration & Management and Economics from Virginia Commonwealth University. After a short period working for the Federal Trade Commission and the World Bank as an Economist, Mr. Nguyen entered the real estate industry in 1987. He formed Westgate Realty Group, Inc., during the summer of 1997 and became its Principal Broker. Westgate Realty Group, Inc. currently has 95 agents, serving Maryland, Washington, DC and Virginia. Mr. Nguyen volunteers to serve in different capacities with the REALTOR® organizations during the last 16 years.
At the national level, he served on the National Association of Realtors Board of Directors from 2008 to 2012. He chaired the Mega-Board Sub-Forum in 2012. He was the NAR’s President Liaison to Vietnam from 2012 to 2016. He was awarded the prestigious NAR Omega Tau Rho Medal of Service in 2009.
At the state level (Virginia Association of Realtors), he was the Vice-Chair for the Information Management Committee (2010), a graduate of VAR’s 2008 Leadership Academy and served on the 2008 Strategic Planning Work Group.
At the local level (Northern Virginia Association of Realtors), he served on the Board of Directors for many years and was the Chairman of the Board of Directors in 2010, Chairman of the Budget and Finance Committee, Secretary and Treasurer in 2008. And in 2011, he was named NVAR’s Realtor of the Year.
Mr. Nguyen has also been the President of the DC Metro Chapter of Asian Real Estate Association of America and was a Director at the national level. AREAA is a non-profit trade organization and its main mission is to advocate at the federal level to remove all barriers to homeownership for Asian Pacific Americans.
Mr. Nguyen served on the Board of Directors for Metropolitan Regional Information Systems (MRIS) from 2010 to 2012. MRIS serves as a leader in real estate information technology. MRIS delivers real estate in real time, connecting real estate professionals, brokers, appraisers, consumers and the public with immediate, accurate and actionable data directly from the frontlines of the MLS. MRIS is frequently ranked among the most productive Multiple Listing Services (MLS) in the nation, facilitating over $125 billion in system wide sales each year.
