John HornblowerThe Managing Partner of the VR Office in Aspen is John Hornblower, CFA, a long-time finance executive. John grew up in Greenwich, Connecticut in a family with a long history in investment banking. His great-grandfather founded Hornblower & Weeks in 1888, a firm which grew to be the 7th largest investment bank in the world.
John graduated with honors from Harvard, where he studied economics and rowed on the heavyweight crew team. John started his finance career on Wall Street at Salomon Brothers as an equity derivatives specialist. He then moved on to Citicorp, where he headed the equity derivatives marketing department, and then to Cantor Fitzgerald, where he traded convertible bonds with institutional investors. In 2009 he founded Hornblower Trading LLC, which allowed him to trade convertible bonds with institutional investors independently, and which also allowed him the flexibility to move to Aspen, Colorado.
In 2013 John recognized the need among small businesses in the Rocky Mountain Region of Colorado for professional brokerage and valuation services. So he founded Hornblower Advisory Partners LLC, doing business as VR Business Brokers, to provide investment banking and business brokerage services to the businesses of Main Street.
