Broker Biography
Introduction
MaTrx is a boutique M&A and capital advisory firm focused on healthcare and special situations in the lower middle market. We provide Wall Street quality advisory services to companies that are often too small to attract traditional investment banks and too complex for generalist business brokers. Our firm combines deep transaction experience, strong financial analysis, sector expertise, and a hands-on founder-first approach that guides owners through the sale of their business with clarity and confidence.
MaTrx was founded by Alex Christodoulou, an advisor whose career has been entirely centered on healthcare transactions and financial diligence. Alex began his career in the Healthcare Due Diligence group at Ernst & Young (EY). At EY he worked closely with private equity funds, strategic acquirers, lenders, and founder-led companies. His work included quality-of-earnings analysis, financial normalization, operational assessments, working capital reviews, integration planning, and preparation for buyer diligence. This experience helped him understand how buyers actually evaluate businesses and what drives valuation, risk, and deal certainty in healthcare.
Alex then joined MTS Health Partners, one of the leading boutique healthcare investment banks in the United States. At MTS he supported transactions in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, healthcare services, diagnostics, and tools. He worked on sell-side and buy-side mandates for growing and established healthcare companies and gained a deeper understanding of scientific and regulatory factors that influence transactions. His time at MTS reinforced the idea that healthcare businesses require specialized knowledge and cannot be sold or valued like ordinary service companies.
After MTS, Alex joined Perella Weinberg Partners in New York. At Perella he worked within the healthcare practice and the special situations and restructuring group. He supported complex transactions including distressed M&A, operational turnarounds, reorganizations, and negotiations involving sophisticated investors and lenders. Alex developed expertise in managing difficult processes with high stakes, tight timelines, and significant pressure. He observed firsthand how elite advisory firms structure deals, negotiate terms, build narratives, manage diligence, and drive transactions to closing.
Across these roles, Alex noticed the same problem. Smaller healthcare businesses were overlooked by large investment banks because their revenue was not high enough. At the same time generalist brokers did not understand healthcare operations, reimbursement dynamics, referral patterns, regulatory issues, clinical workflows, payer mix, quality metrics, or the specialized KPIs that determine valuation. As a result many founders were forced to sell without proper guidance or to accept deals that did not reflect the true strength of their business.
MaTrx was created to solve that problem.
MaTrx focuses on companies with 2 million to 20 million USD in revenue across healthcare services, diagnostics, labs, MSOs, behavioral health, PT and OT clinics, specialty practices, biotech tools, reagent manufacturers, outsourced clinical services, and other healthcare verticals. We also support operators in special situations including distressed businesses, turnarounds, liquidity challenges, carve-outs, succession issues, operational gaps, and businesses that require swift and discreet execution.

Financial Preparation & Readiness
We prepare clean, credible numbers before going to market. This includes financial normalization, working capital analysis, KPI extraction, operational benchmarking, and pre-QoE readiness. Our goal is to remove uncertainty for buyers and maximize valuation.
Buyer Targeting & Outreach: We identify and contact the right universe of buyers—healthcare strategics, PE platforms, add-ons, search funds, family offices, and specialty buyers for distressed or urgent situations. Our outreach blends industry expertise with proprietary data and AI-driven research.
Valuation & Positioning: We conduct comps, transaction analysis, normalized EBITDA modeling, and valuation scenarios. We craft a narrative that highlights strengths, mitigates risks, and positions the business to command the strongest offers.
Special Situations
We support distressed M&A, turnarounds, carve-outs, urgent capital needs, owner fatigue, and complex operational or legal situations that require fast, adaptive execution.
Closing Support
Even after signing an LOI, we manage closing conditions, buyer financing, working capital peg negotiations, and transition planning to ensure the deal successfully reaches the finish line.
