Introduction

I’m James Tautkus, and I’m proud to call Idaho home—not just on a map, but in every corner of my life. My family, my work, my music, and my heart are all rooted right here in this extraordinary community.

My wife, Ashley, was born at the old Moritz Hospital in Sun Valley and now runs her own clinic, Ketchum Family Medicine, as a Physician Assistant. Together, we’re raising two spirited daughters, Penelope and Maybelle, who already sense there’s something magical about where they live. And of course, there’s Jake—our lovable Labrador and trail companion. He’s a very good boy.

My Idaho journey started with ski racing. After college, I moved to Utah to coach, and a trip to Sun Valley changed everything. I felt it immediately—that pull, that “this is it” moment. It’s a feeling many of us recognize the moment we step foot here. This place isn’t for everyone. But if it’s for you, you just know.

Over the years, I’ve had the chance to get deeply involved in the community:

• 5 years as Head Alpine Coach with the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation

• 6 years on the executive committee of Sun Valley Economic Development

• Current member of the Challis Chamber of Commerce

•Licensed through both the Sun Valley and Snake River MLS

Outside of work, you’ll find me in the mountains, on horseback at our family ranch, skiing powder lines, or enjoying quiet mornings in the woods. But what really lights me up is country western music. I front a band out of Ketchum called The Pisten Bullys, where we play the songs of Waylon, Marty Robbins, Merle Haggard, and Gene Autry. Music isn’t just a hobby—it’s a way of life, and you can feel that when we hit the stage.
